The plain-language terms for using Content Tally.
Using the tool
Content Tally is provided free of charge for counting words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs in text you paste, files you upload, or public webpages you link to. No account or payment is required. By using the site, you agree to these terms.
Your content
You retain full ownership of any text or files you paste or upload. As explained in our Privacy Policy, your content is processed in your browser and is not stored on our servers. You're responsible for making sure you have the right to paste, upload, or analyze whatever content you use with the tool.
Acceptable use
Don't use Content Tally to attempt to disrupt the site, probe it for vulnerabilities, or automate abusive levels of traffic against the tool or the third-party services it relies on for website-link fetching. Reasonable personal and professional use of the counter is exactly what it's built for.
No warranty
Content Tally is provided "as is." Word, character, sentence, and paragraph counts, reading-time estimates, and file-extraction results are produced automatically and may occasionally be inaccurate (for example, sentence detection can miscount around abbreviations, and reading-time estimates use an average words-per-minute assumption, not your personal reading speed). For anything with real stakes — an exam word limit, a legal filing, a contractual requirement — double-check the count using the document's own tools or a second source.
Third-party services
The website-link analysis feature depends on third-party proxy services to fetch page content. If those services are unavailable or a target site blocks automated fetching, that feature may fail — Content Tally isn't responsible for the uptime or behavior of services it doesn't operate.
Changes
The tool's feature set and these terms may change over time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
